Leever Cancer Center Buries Time Capsule to Connect Past, Present, and Future

The Harold Leever Regional Cancer Center marked a unique milestone on January 19, 2026, by placing a time capsule within the walls of its new building—a gesture designed to send a message to the future and celebrate the spirit of everyone who has contributed to Leever’s mission.

The time capsule, initiated by Deborah Parkinson, includes a poster that reads: “To the spirit of all who have been here and to all who will come, we observe this moment in time, and know that we are all connected.”

The poster was signed by staff from all three practices in the building as well as several HLRCC board members. Dr. Victor Chang added: “We thank all those individuals who went before us and created a path for us to walk on.”

In addition to the poster, the capsule contains the day’s newspaper, a yellow hardhat squeeze ball, and assorted HLRCC giveaways, including lanyards and pens.

The time capsule is intended to remain sealed until found in the future, offering a window into the people, culture, and spirit of the HLRCC at this moment in time.

"We wanted to create a way to send a message to the future and honor everyone who is part of the Leever family today,” said Deborah Parkinson, HLRCC Interim Executive Director/Operations Director. “It’s a reminder that the work we do is part of something bigger, connecting past, present, and future.”
